چکیده

Statement of problem: There is little information about the maintenance requirements of implant restorations. Purpose: To compare the prosthodontic maintenance requirements of screw-retained implant prosthesis versus that of telescopic overdentures after an observation period of 18 months. Materials and methods: 26 completely edentulous patients were enrolled in the study. Patients were divided into two equal groups receiving either screw-retained restorations or telescopic overdentures which were supported on four maxillary and four mandibular implants. A follow up protocol at the day of loading, 6months, 12 months and 18 months was scheduled to assess maintenance requirements. During the follow-up period, prosthodontic complications for the screw-retained restorations and telescopic overdentures were registered and calculated. Results: The total incidence of prosthetic complications recorded was 10 events in the removable group and 14 events in the fixed group. Regarding the removable group the most common complications were screw loosening of the abutment and prosthetic teeth fracture. While screw loosening of the abutments and prosthesis, fractured acrylic resin, fracture of teeth and remake of the prosthesis occurred in the fixed group. The results of the study revealed that there was no significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion: Prosthodontic maintenance with implant prosthesis should be considered when planning and estimating the costs of the prosthetic components of implant rebabilitation.

Single Versus Two Dental Implant Retained Mandibular Overdenture: Study Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: The consensus is that the standard treatment of choice for the edentulous mandible should be a two implant retained mandibular overdenture. Some clinicians have tried single median implant to retain the mandibular overdenture, however, there is lack of scientific information with single implant retained mandibular overdenture. Therefore the purpose of the current randomized clinical...

Bone Height Changes of the Mandibular Edentulous Ridge in Screw Retained Versus Telescopic Restorations for Completely Edentulous Patients

AIM This study was established to evaluate the amount of bone height changes in the posterior mandibular area of edentulous patients receiving screw-retained prostheses versus removable telescopic implant overdentures. MATERIAL AND METHODS Every patient received four inter-foraminal implants regarding the mandibular arch and four anterior implants for the maxillary arch, computer guided surgi...

Cement- and screw-retained implant-supported prostheses: up to 10 years of follow-up of a new design.

PURPOSE This retrospective study investigated treatment outcomes over 10 years of a new prosthesis design in implant prosthodontics that uses a combined cement- and screw-retained principle. MATERIALS AND METHODS The clinical data of 78 implant-supported prostheses were examined. Each prosthesis incorporated at least 1 screw-retained element and 1 or more cement-retained telescopic units. One...

Telescopic prostheses for implants.

This retrospective study investigated the outcome of 73 telescopic implant-supported fixed prostheses. Fifty-four prostheses were entirely cement-retained, and 19 incorporated a screw-clamping unit. The rate of complications was low and in most cases minor in nature. Cement-retained prostheses involving a distal cantilevered extension required the greatest postoperative maintenance. Despite the...

A systematic review and meta‐analysis of removable and fixed implant‐supported prostheses in edentulous jaws: post‐loading implant loss

OBJECTIVES The aim of this systematic review was to analyze post-loading implant loss for implant-supported prostheses in edentulous jaws, regarding a potential impact of implant location (maxilla vs. mandible), implant number per patient, type of prosthesis (removable vs. fixed), and type of attachment system (screw-retained, ball vs. bar vs. telescopic crown). MATERIAL AND METHODS A systema...
